Test Details: This test is used to determine the presence of level of BK Virus DNA in copies/ml in patient's specimens by Real Time Pcr. Detection of the virus in these specimens may be indicative of an active infection, as PCR detects the presence of the virus, and not the host's reaction to the virus. Quantitative BKV DNA in the plasma is the most widely used and preferred test for the laboratory diagnosis of BKV associated Neuropathy and BKV-associated hemorrhagic cystitis, as BKV viremia has higher positive predictive value (50%-60%) than BKV viruria for the diagnosis of BKV associated neuropathy.
