Test Details: Bilirubin is generated by a two-stage sequential catalytic degradation reaction that primarily takes place in the cells of the reticuloendothelial system, notably the spleen. This test is utilized to evaluate liver function, to assess a wide range of diseases affecting the production, uptake, storage, metabolism, or excretion of bilirubin and also to monitor the efficacy of neonatal phototherapy.
