Mumps IgG Antibody
Test Details: Mumps is a contagious viral infection that is easily spreads through coughing, sneezing, talking, or by sharing items or touching surfaces with respiratory droplets or saliva on them (e.g. cups, utensils). The common symptoms patient presents with are low-grade fever, headache, and malaise. Painful enlargement of the salivary glands, the hallmark of mumps, occurs in approximately 60% to 70% of infections and in 95% of patients with symptoms. Mumps IgG antibodies are present in a person who has been vaccinated and/or has had mumps infection in the past. IgG antibodies offer long term protection to the patient. If a person does not have mumps IgG antibodies, then that person is not considered immune to the virus.
