Test Details: Many patients undergo maintenance hemodialysis that exposes them to water, primarily in the form of dialysate. During an average week of hemodialysis, a patient can be exposed to 300-600 litres of water, providing multiple opportunities for potential patient exposure to waterborne pathogens. The very purpose of this test is to detect presence of waterborne pathogens in the dialysate water in order to keep the patient safe (by infection control) and to maintain the safety standards.
