Test Details: Peripheral blood smear examination is a microscopic test used to examine cell counts and deviation from normal morphology of blood cells. This test is used to detect and treat malaria. Examination of the thin film allows for identification of the species of malarial parasite, whereas thick film examination aids in calculation of malaria percent-parasitemia, which can be used to predict prognosis and monitor response to treatment for patients with malaria.
