Test Details: CD 14 is a pattern recognition receptor that detects antigenic molecules on the surface of various microorganisms. Also called lipopolysaccharide (LPS) receptor, monocyte differentiation antigen. CD14 acts as a co-receptor for the detection of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). It also recognizes other pathogen-associated molecular patterns such as lipoteichoic acid. CD 14 marker is to identify mature monocytes / macrophages, thus it is known as a monocytic cell marker in flow cytometric studies/analysis.
