Test Details: Immunohistochemical testing helps to identify specific antigens (proteins) within tissue sections utilizing an antigen-specific antibody. Glypican-3 is expressed in a wide range of epithelial and mesenchymal tumours including pulmonary squamous cell carcinoma and small cell carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatoblastoma, acinar carcinoma of the pancreas, neuroblastoma, Wilms tumour, yolk sac tumour, choriocarcinoma, liposarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma. It is used as part of a panel in differentiating hepatocellular carcinoma from benign liver lesions and metastatic neoplasms.
