G0002
G6PD gene sequencing
Test Details: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) is housekeeping enzyme that plays a vital role in the prevention of cellular damage from reactive oxygen species.
Inherited deficiencies of glucose-6- phosphate Dehydrogenase can result in acute hemolytic anemia. This deficiency is caused by one or more mutations in the G6PD gene on chromosome X. In particular, anti-malarial agents have a strong association with inducing hemolytic anemia in patients with G6PD deficiency. This test involves full gene sequencing of all exons and exon/intron boundaries of the G6PD gene. Testing should be considered before prescribing medication associated with hemolysis in individuals with G6PD deficiency.
